Educational Services | Professional Development
Today’s students have complex needs. While a good coach is key to success, some students need a solid team to succeed. At Learning Essentials, we are all about team building and reaching our goal of improved educational outcomes.
Our professional team of tutors is trained to work with all of the specialists (educational, medical, counseling and PT/OT/SLP) assisting a student. This ensures consistent support for the child and the family.
One of the ways we do this is through offering professional development programs for educators like you. Collaborating with medical and mental health professionals, we train educators to better support students with special needs and to address underlying conditions—from anxiety and depression to autism.
Make Learning Essentials your draft pick for professional development. Founded by a former MCPS teacher and qualified educational diagnostician, we know the best plays from both sides of the field. We work with you to create playbooks for learning that help your students score success in the classroom—and beyond.

Professional Development Programs
Understanding and Teaching Students with Anxiety and Depression
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that one in four 13- to 18-year-olds has had an anxiety disorder in their lifetime. Without proper intervention, they are at risk for poor performance, diminished learning and social/behavior problems in school.
Join our Executive Director, a seasoned educator and diagnostician, to understand the impact of anxiety on a child’s learning and behavior and to learn effective interventions that are easy to implement in a busy classroom.
Understanding Autism: Characteristics and Practices for Challenging Behavior
As the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) increases, many of us have been or will be touched by ASD. Right now there are more students with ASD than ever before struggling to learn in our classrooms.
Together we will work to understand the needs of students with ASD, how to support students who exhibit challenging behavior in the classroom and classroom supports for both special and general educators.
Universal Design: Empower and Engage all Learners
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is curriculum design approach that helps teachers customize the curriculum to serve all learners—regardless of ability, disability, age, gender, or cultural and linguistic background. UDL provides a blueprint for designing strategies, materials, assessments, and tools to reach and teach students with diverse needs.
Join our Executive Director, an experienced educator, diagnostician and special needs advocate, to learn how to provide learners with alternative ways to act skillfully and demonstrate knowledge. Also, explore how to tap into learners’ strengths and increase classroom success.
Common Medical Conditions: Essential Playbook for Understanding and Supporting Medical Conditions that Impact Your Learners
Medical impairments are often invisible disabilities, caused by such conditions as arthritis, asthma, cancer, orthopedic limitations, post surgery, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or seizure disorder. The student may have limited energy; difficulty walking, standing, or sitting for a long time; or other disabling characteristics, such as an inability to write.
Join our Executive Director, a former MCPS teacher and qualified diagnostician, to learn strategies every teacher should know for teaching and supporting students with medical needs.
